Weather advice by region
Hanoi, Ha Long Bay and northern Vietnam
Northern Vietnam has more seasonal variation than the south. Hanoi can be cool in winter and hot, humid and rainy in summer.
Spring and autumn are often the most comfortable periods for Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Ninh Binh and northern landscapes.
Sapa and mountain areas
Sapa and northern mountain areas can be cold in winter and misty or wet during some periods.
Spring and autumn are often better for trekking, rice terraces and mountain views, but local conditions can change quickly.
Hue, Da Nang and Hoi An
Central Vietnam has a different weather pattern from the north and south. Da Nang and Hoi An are often attractive from February to August.
September to November can bring higher rain risk in central Vietnam, so travelers should keep some flexibility during this period.
Ho Chi Minh City and southern Vietnam
Southern Vietnam is warm throughout the year, with a drier season and a rainy season.
December to April is usually easier for Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong Delta and many southern routes. Rainy season trips are still possible, but showers can affect outdoor plans.
Phu Quoc and beach destinations
Phu Quoc is often more practical during the drier months from December to April.
For beach stays, check local forecasts before booking fixed boat trips, diving, snorkeling or island excursions.
